Route 66 - Our Lady of the Highways Shrine

The Shrine of Our Lady of the Highways is located about a half-hour south of Springfield on Route 66 - or Interstate 55 if you must save a little time. All good travelers want to navigate the Mother Road to find their way to the Holy Mother, but, if you must,

directions using I-55 are included.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has marked Route 66 well throughout the state, with brown Historic Route 66 signs marking various alignments of the highway from Chicago to the Metro East. For more details on America's Main Street in Central and Southern illinois visit the Route 66 page.

Follow highway to exit 63 (30 miles south of Springfield, 63 miles north of the Gateway Arch.) Turn west (left from the south, right from the north) onto IL-48/127 (going away from Raymond) and take the first right onto the west frontage road/Historic Route 66 (just before the old service station roof.) Follow less than one mile; Shrine is on the left.

From the north, follow Interstate 55 south to exit 80 at Divernon. Go west and immediately turn south on the west frontage road; this is Route 66. Follow south for 17 miles to Shrine (on the right.) Watch for Art's Motel and Restaurant with classic restored sign just on the south side of the Farmersville (exit 72) overpass.

From the south, there are multiple entries onto the Mother Road from Interstate 55 and other highways. The closest to the Shrine is in Litchfield (I-55 exit 52.) From the exit, follow Illinois 16 east into town. Turn left on four-lane highway at light; follow north out of town. Follow the Historic Route 66 signs as they guide you onto the west side of I-55. The Shrine is just north of exit 63 on your left.
